Avengers: Endgame trailer and hype

I honestly did not know what I was expecting when I saw the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame this morning. To say that I was excited was a bit of an understatement. I was hoping that this trailer would give us some type of insight as to what the fourth Avengers movie was going to be about. I mean, okay…spoilers for Avengers: Infinity Ward, but when Thanos came to Earth and pulled a damn rapture on everything in existence, I had no idea what could be done for the follow up hitting theaters next April. And personally, a small part of me just thought that the MCU should have just ended and rebooted in five years.

I mean obviously that is a terrible idea, but one that I am cool with.

So what we have with the trailer for Avengers 4 is Tony Stark lost in space (danger!), and Captain America and Black Widow trying to figure out what to do about the mass, intergalactic genocide they couldn’t stop.

So let’s talk about what we know;

We know that the original Avengers lineup is going to try and do something of great peril. We don’t know what exactly they’re going to do or what for, but I think we can safely assume that they’re going to try and undo the snap heard ’round our world.

Next, we know that Hawkeye is back in action in Japan and he’s wielding a katana now…I guess.

Surprisingly, counted among the dusted is Shuri from Black Panther. Which sucks because outside of M’Baku, she was my favorite character from that film. And considering that she is the smartest mind on planet Earth, the Avengers have already had the deck stacked against them considering that both she and Tony are gone. Plus, while Banner is still around, he’s never seemed super confident in his abilities, so he may be more of a hindrance than anything else.

Thanos is a farmer.

Thor is sad again while Ant-Man found a way out of the Quantum Realm…spoilers for Ant-Man and The Wasp.

While the trailer does a nice job at being a longer-than-usual teaser trailer, I have to say that I found this trailer lacking.

While it’s no one’s fault but my own. Since Avengers: Infinity War came out last April, the internet has been saturated with articles, theories, scoops, leaks and “news” about what the fallow would, could and should be. While I  know that most of the theories and articles will most likely be proven false, I couldn’t tell you what this movie will be about based on this trailer, out side of the remaining Avengers going on a suicide mission to undo what was done in the last movie.

“Can I tell jokes now?”

So why isn’t that more exciting? Why did this trailer seem so underwhelming? Well, like I said before, it was my own fault. I let myself get thrown in with all the hype and buzz about this film and it has turned into some type of mystique of a film that has massive potential to polarize fans and moviegoers alike. I relatively certain that this film will be a hit, I’m even confident enough to say that it’ll be good. But will it be enough?

ant-man

Personally, all a movie has to do is be “good” for me to walk away happy. I don’t need or want every film to be full of world-ending stakes and unwinnable odds, Both of which will probably feature in this film. My hope for Avengers: Endgame is that it’s just good. The MCU has nothing left to prove at this point, so much so that nowadays, everyone is wondering if the next film in the MCU timeline will be the proverbial iceberg ahead. Endgame will not actually end anything, there are still three hundred more MCU films slated for release over the next ten years. Hell, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be released in June of next year.

With this new Avengers film, what I hope I can do, as well as everyone else that’s willing to read this, is calm down about all of the hype surrounding this film. We all know this film is going to make all of the money, and it may also be a good movie on top of that. Honestly, it shows serious promise. I like dark films and it seems like this film is set to be the darkest yet in the MCU timeline. I just hope I can keep my anticipation at the door when this film inevitably comes out and I sit myself down with the biggest tub of popcorn I can afford.

Like Tony Stark says, “Part of the journey is the end.”. And while this won’t be the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I hope it’s the end of getting over-hyped about things I have no control over.

I am so glad to see Cap’s stealth suit make a return.

Avengers: Endgame is set to be released on April 26th, 2019 and is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
